Heritage Baptist Books
Your Missionaries to America spreading God’s Word
Spring Prayer Letter 2024
One thing we have always tried to do through Heritage Baptist Books is help people get good Christian books and Bibles into their hands.
Sometimes that means giving a book or Bible away. Other times it means helping someone get a resource they are looking for and encouraging them to value and use it.
I remember one young man who came up to our table. He was about fifteen years old and had picked out a book. I thought about just giving it to him.
Then he told me why he wanted it.
He was getting ready to go on a fishing trip with his dad, and he hoped they would have some time alone together. His dad was not in church, and the young man wanted to use the book to help start a conversation with him. He was hoping his dad might come to church and eventually get saved.
Part of me wanted to give him the book just to be a blessing and encourage him.
But the more I thought about it in that moment, the more I felt like I should let him invest in it himself and his dad’s relationship.
He was putting something of his own into helping his dad. He was investing in that relationship and in something that really mattered to him. It seemed better to let him do that than to take that opportunity away from him.
That story has stayed with me.
Our goal is not simply to give away as many books as possible. The goal is to help people get good resources that they will read, value, and use.
There are times when someone needs a Bible or book and we are thankful to be able to provide it. Other times, it may be better to let someone make that investment themselves.
Please pray that the Lord would give us wisdom to know the difference.
Pray also that He would continue giving us opportunities to put good Christian books and Bibles into the hands of people who will use them to help themselves, their families, and others.
Thank you for praying for this ministry.
